Joining a club and club activities improves the quality of your life and gives vitality to your life. First, you can meet a lot of people who has same hobby. Since meeting people who has same hobby is good for you because you can talk about your hobby and enjoying hobby with them. In my case, I love watching movies and enjoy going to a trade show, so I joined movie club and on Saturday I watch movie and eat dinner and drink beer or Soju with club member. I meet same aged friend, older sister and brother and middle-aged people. We talk about the movie that watched the day or we loved. Second, you can get rid of stress by club activities. Doing something what you like help you relieve stress and feel better. When I'm so stressed, I watch movie with others so club activities is very helpful to me. Third, doing something with people is more fun and excited. If you love hiking and every weekend go hiking, you can found that going with other people is more fun because during the hiking, you can talk, eating food together and relax because you’re not alone. If you think your life is boring and want to meet someone, joining club is helpful.

Sometimes My older sister want make fun of me, she begin to speak about my shameful memory. When I was young, maybe I was in the first grade, World Firework Festival was held in Yeoido in October. My sister, my sister’s friend, her mother and I went to Yeoido to see the festival and firework. We arrived late and there are overcrowded with people, so my sister said ‘Be careful and follow me. Don’t hold my hand’. However I was so young and curious, I run, run and run forgetting my sister’s word when I saw displayed wonderful fireworks. When I gather my senses, I found I lost my way and missed my sister. I think I was a brave girl at that time because I was not embarrassed by this matter. I looked for center for lost children and went there then I said I lost my sister. I knew my house, parent phone number and how to get home with subway so police officer called my parent and got me to the station and gave me fare. I arrived home safely and my mom called my sister and my sister’s friend, her mother. All of them couldn’t enjoy the festival, but after they heard I got home safely, they enjoyed the festival. To me, that happening is shameful memory, but to other family, it is funny story so sometimes they make fun of me about this happening. If you are lost your way and miss your family, and it finish just happening, you will become a laughing stock whole life.

It is Medical drama.
The heroine is Dr.Hank.
He let a billionaire hospital trustee die to save some kid off the street

and he was fired.

Then he and his brother went to the Hamptons and he save a woman at party.

He was be a concierge doctor to the rich.

Usually I didn't watch medical drama.
But, wow! It is fantastic!
I watched two season for two days.

What Is The “Oedipus Complex”?

Many people have ever heard of an “Oedipus Complex”. It means the jealous feelings some boys have towards their fathers. If a boy or man has an Oedipus complex, he feels sexual desire for his mother and has hostile feelings towards his father. It got this name from a very old story.

A long time ago in Thebes, a king named Laius had a son, Oedipus. Before the boy was born, the king heard from the Delphic Oracle that his son would kill him in the future. Afraid of this, Laius told one of his men to kill Oedipus. Instead of killing Oedipus, however, his men left Oedipus in a forest to die. Then, by chance, the king of Corinth found the boy and raised him as his own child.

One day, Oedipus went to the Delphic Oracle and was told that he would kill his father and marry his mother. Shocked by this, Oedipus left Corinth. On the way, he had an argument with an old man and killed him. He didn’t know that old man was really his father. Later Oedipus solved a monster’s riddle and saved the people of Thebes. They made him their king, and he married the queen Jocasta who was really his mother. Delphic Oracle had been completely realized. When Oedipus finally learned the truth, he left Thebes and put out the eyes of his own eyes and went on repentance .

Today, when a boy strongly dislikes his father but loves his mother, people say he has an “Oedipus Complex”.

American drama ‘Criminal Minds’

Every Thursday I watch American drama ‘Criminal Minds’. Criminal Minds is now in its sixth season on CBS, seen Wednesday nights at 9:00 in America. Criminal Minds is my favorite American drama because the story unfolds at a quick pace and drama’s characters are very attractive.

The drama’s characters are FBI special agent in B.A.U. (Behavioral Analysis Unit) and they handle serial killer and catch them by profiling.

The characters in Criminal Minds are Aaron Hotchner, David Rossi, Derek Morgan, Emily Prentiss, Penelope Garcia and Dr. Spencer Reid. Agent Hotchner’s the S.A.C and he is single father because his wife was killed by serial killer who B.A.U.’s agents pursued. David Rossi is retired agent but B.A.U. is a man down so he is offering to help and he does his job well. Derek Morgan is very handsome and sexy agent. He is very attractive character so I love him very much. Emily Prentiss gained tolerable proficiency in foreign languages and Penelope Garcia is technical analyst in B.A.U. Dr. Spencer Reid is genius and his IQ is 180 and he holds doctorates in chemistry, mathematics and engineering. He is very naïve and cute so B.A.U. team loves him. In Criminal Minds, Morgan and Garcia are very close and their talk is romantic. They call each other baby or honey, but they are not a couple.

In Criminal Minds, each characters say wise saying each episode. Unlike other American drama, Criminal Minds is cruel. Drama’s scene is not very cruel, but the set-up is cruel because serial killer appeared in Criminal Minds. But I love it very much!

Every Thursday I watch American drama ‘Criminal Minds’ because of attractive characters especially Dr. Spencer Reid. He is a FBI special agent and team member of Behavioral Analysis Unit. He does have an I.Q. of 187 and an eidetic memory and can read 20,000 words per minute. He holds doctorates in chemistry, mathematics and engineering. Even more surprising is that Dr. Spencer Reid is only 28 years old. Yes, he is a genius. Even though he is a genius sometimes he is naive and slow-witted. B.A.U Team talk about pop star like Rat Pack and Beatles, but he said ‘I stick to Beethoven’. When we look him, we can notice the sentence ‘The difference between a genius and a fool is paper-thin’ is match him. He read a lot of technical books and it seems he knows all the answers, but he doesn’t know every people know like the novel ‘Twilight’. Unlike other American drama, Criminal Minds is cruel because B.A.U. Team handles serial killer. So if you can’t stand scenes of brutality, you don’t watch Criminal Minds even though characters are attractive.

I fear of water so I don’t swim wherever we can swim like swimming pool, ocean and every time I go to swimming pool or ocean, I always play in shallow water with a tube. Many people have various kinds of phobias that affect their lives every day and confront every day. For example, People can have acrophobia which is a pathological fear of heights and agoraphobia which is a feeling of fear when someone is in the big place alone. Agoraphobia, social phobia, acrophobia and claustrophobia are most Common Phobias and there are many uncommon phobias. For example, arachnophobia, the fear of spiders. Even though many spiders are harmless, a person with arachnophobia may still panic at the mere sight of one. Another example, triskaidekaphobia means people are scared of the number 13 and some people actually develop severe phobias associated with Friday the 13th. Homophobia, xenophobia, lyssophobia, demonophobia, androphobia and gynephobia are example of uncommon and unknown phobia. I have a lot of phobias like water phobia, acrophobia and claustrophobia, but they are not bad affecting my daily lives a lot. If you have phobia but no need to shake in your boots because phobia symptoms can change over time and if it is thrown into a panic, a psychologist may be able to help you.

After a long time, I met my friends!

Yesterday I hang out with my two friends after a long time because they are busy at school life.
We drink grape soju and it is very delicious!
Then we bought beer in Homeplus and went to Pari-Park in our village and drunk.

I passed a day pleasantly:)

If you used to stay at home on the loaf every holiday and you feel boring, you can go to a movie theater and watch movie. First, you find a movie theater near your house where you can go easily and go. There are many movie genres like musical, comedy, horror, action, melodrama and romantic comedy. You can choose what movie you will watch, when you watch and how many buy ticket. Next you stand in line at the box office and buy movie ticket and if you want to eat popcorn and other things during the movie, you can buy then in a movie theater concession. Then you line up to get into the theater gate and show your ticket to the theater staff. After that, you can enjoy your movie eating popcorn, Nacho chips whatever you bought. In the movie theater you can see some couples sat in the seat exchanging sweet nothings. If you don’t have boy or girl friend, and you watch the movie alone, you will feel so all alone and frustrated.

<THE FALLING TOWER: Leaning Tower of Pisa>

People can see a bell tower that leans in the town of Pisa, Italy. It’s called the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and it is the freestanding bell tower. The Leaning Tower of Pisa stands 55.86 meters high and weighs around 14,453 tons. It’s been leaning more and more ever since it was built about 700 years ago.

Some say that long ago the great Italian scientist Galileo dropped weights from the tower to learn how fast things fall. Even then, the tower was a leaning tower. But this Galileo’s anecdote is not historical fact. When Galileo’s disciple, Viviani, wrote a biography of Galileo, he put this story in biography after Galileo died.

The construction of the Leaning tower of Pisa began on August 9, 1173. At this time the tower was vertical. However by the 13th century, the tower began to lean. Little by little, one side of the tower keeps on sinking into the soft ground. The Leaning Tower tips about an inch every nine years. The farther it leans out of line the faster it tips. So the government of Italy stated construction to prevent the collapse of Tower. The construction was finished successfully. Symptoms that tower was leaning have stopped and now tower's slope is 5.5.

If the Leaning Tower ever falls, it will be the end of what some people say is one of the seven wonders of the modern world.

<BODY OF A LION – HEAD OF A MAN: SPHINX>

Sphinx has the body of a lion and the head of a man. It’s one of the many statues in Egypt that look like monsters. The Great Sphinx at Giza, Egypt, is the largest and best known of all these statues.

The origin of the Great Sphinx of Giza goes back 5,000 years. Its human head was carved to look like that of the king Khafre, the Pharaoh who ruled Egypt in the 26th century B.C. The lion body stands for the king’s strength. Both the head and body were carved from solid rock. The paws and legs were built if stone blocks. This grate statue is 66 feet (20 meters) high and more than 240 feet (70 meters) long and 20 feet (6 meters) wide. It stands guard over the road that leads to the pyramid built by King Khafre.

The head of the Great Sphinx has been damaged more than once by vandals, people who destroy things on purpose. Over the centuries, desert sandstorms have also worn away some of the stone. Often, the bottom part of the Sphinx lies buried under the sand. But it seems as though nothing can really destroy the Great Sphinx.

And it is true: for hundreds of years, the Sphinx attracted people both as a religious monument and as a work of art.

<THE GLORY OF ANCIENT GREECE>

On a high hill overlooking the city of Athens stand the ruins of a once splendid temple. This famous temple is known as the Parthenon, and the hill is called the Acropolis.

The Acropolis was the religious center of ancient Athens. It was on this hill that the Greeks built the Parthenon almost 2,500 years ago. They put up this magnificent temple to honor Athena Parthenos, the patron goddess of Athens. Inside the temple was a giant gold and ivory status of Athena.

When Greece became a Christian country in the fifth century, the Parthenon was used as a church that dedicated for the Virgin Mary. Then the Ottoman Empire conquered Greece. They turned the Parthenon into a mosque, which is a Moslem place of worship. But during a war, the Turks stored gunpowder in the Parthenon. The gunpowder was exploded by enemy fire and the building and statues were wrecked.

Years later, Lord Elgin, an Englishman, visited Athens. He sent home some of the marble sculptures from the outside of the building. Known as the Elgin Marbles or Parthenon Marbles, they can be seen in the British Museum in London. Other treasures are in the Acropolis Museum in Athens.

The Parthenon is stripped, wrecked, and worn now. But its ghostly splendor makes you think of the glory of ancient Greece. People say that The Parthenon is most important classical architecture of ancient Greece.

KANGAROOS

Kangaroos are very interesting animal to me. So I will introduce them.

Of all the countries in the world Australia has some of the strangest animals, many of them quite unlike the animals of other countries. Many of the animals of Australia have the habit of carrying their babies in pouches to keep them safe. Animals with pouches are called “marsupials”. Some of these are tiny creatures, no bigger than a mouse. But the largest and best known of them, the kangaroos, are often, when they stand up, taller than a man. Some marsupials live all the time in trees, while others burrow holes in the ground. Some eat the flesh of other animals, but most live on grass or the leaves of trees.

Each family of kangaroos is led by a large buck, a male kangaroo, which is known as the “old man”. He is the father of the family, and he rules his wives and the young bucks very strictly. He will fight fiercely with other old-man kangaroos to keep his own wives or win others from his rivals. The female kangaroos are called “does”.

When a baby kangaroo is born it is only about an inch long and quite naked, blind and helpless. All it can do for itself is to breathe, and to climb through fur. It climbs through its mother’s fur into her pouch, and there it stays for about four months. The mother kangaroo keeps her pouch closed at first, and then after some weeks she lets her baby put out his head out and look around, and then he begins to nibble the grass as his mother moves through it. A young kangaroo is called “joey”.

How get food in the cafeteria

If you feel hungry, you can go cafeteria. When you enter the cafeteria, the first thing you have to do is selecting menu. There are a lot of menus like tteokbokki, ramen, and gimbap. Second, you buy a token to order food that you want. Third, you line up to place an order with a staff for food. Third, you give the token to staff and receive food. Then you bring the food to the table and sit at the board. After that, you enjoy your meal. Finally, when you are finished eating, you have to bring the dishes to the place where the staff wash the dishes.

Hwaseong Fortress

Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon was built by King Jeongjo to honor his dead father, Crown Prince Jangheon (now called Sadoseja).

           Crown Prince Jangheon, at the age of fifteen, was ordered by King Yeongjo, his strict father, to run the country Joseon on his behalf. At that time the political situation of Cho-Son was complicated. The political force were splintered. In 1762, several political rivals told the king that the prince had behaved badly, in order to dethrone him. Upon hearing the rumor, the King blew his cap. The furious King ordered his son to kill himself. He disobeyed and was imprisoned in a rice chest where he starved to death.

Years later, the prince’ son, Jeongjo, became King. In 1794 he began building Hwaseong Fortress. To build Hwaseong Fortress, King Jeongjo appointed the greatest intellectuals of the time like Kim Hong-do, Che Je-gong, and Jung Yak-yong. It was completed in 1796, and two years later, he moved his father’s tomb to inside the Fortress walls.

Hwaseong Fortress mixes original Joseon beauty with early modern architecture and engineering techniques. It was built with bricks, which were a new building material at that time. A large tool like a crane (a geojunggi) was invented by Jung Yak-yong, creative inventors of Joseon, to lift the bricks.

Hwaseong Fortress was named a property of World Cultural Heritage at the 21st meeting of the World Heritage Committee in 1997. The Committee praised Hwaseong Fortress as an outstanding example of early modern military architecture, mixing the best features of both Eastern and Western science.

The Great Wall of China

In China, there is a wall that twists and turns like a dragon as it goes over mountains and across valleys. It is about as high as a three-story building. And it goes on and on, for more than 6,352 kilometer. No wonder it is called the Great Wall of China. And The Great Wall of China is the longest wall ever built on Earth.

At one time, there were many rulers in China. These rulers often put up walls to keep enemies out of China and to protect their land and their people. About the year 221 B.C, the first emperor named Qin Shi Huangdi united the different parts of China into one country. And the great emperor of all China decided to connect some of these walls. He wanted to protect his country from invaders living to the north like the Huns. So he began work on the Great Wall.

It was made of dirt, stones, and bricks. And the top was wide enough for troops and horsemen to use as a load.

 In later years, other emperors made repairs and added new sections to the wall. The last work was done about four hundred years ago. Much of the Great Wall still stands.

The Great Wall of China was registered as World Heritage by the UNESCO in 1987. And it is in the list of the "Seven Medieval Wonders of the World." So Hundreds and thousands of tourists from all over the world visit China each year to see the Great Wall. The Great Wall is one of the most popular tourist spots in the world.

Some people said people can see the Great Wall of China from the Moon. But it is not true. Even though the Great Wall is really big, you can't see it from the Moon!

This is my room. I used to use the room with my pretty sister but she went abroad for study. I use the room alone. In my room, there are two wooden beds and two wooden desks. There is big and wooden bookshelf and a lot of books are in the bookshelf. When I enter my room I feel comfortable. If I l feel bad, angry, tired, my room is so comfy and warm that I can relax. I think my room is the best place to me.

THE STORY OF HISTORIC SITE

I take the history school, so I introduce some story about Historic Site.

A Lost City (Machu Picchu)

They said it couldn’t be found. A young American, the professor of Yale, Hiram Bingham tried many times and had no luck. And others had tried before him without success. But Hiram did not give up. He would find one of the lost cities that the Inca Indians had built hundreds of years before, even if he had to climb a hundred mountains.

The Inca Indians ruled n Peru more than four hundred years ago. As one story goes, they built cities near the tops of mountains. Many years later, people kept hearing about the cities, but nobody could find one. Did Inca cities really exist? Hiram thought so, and he was determined to prove it. So he began another climb.

Near the tops of the mountain, he saw something through the bushes. Stone buildings, walls, and temples –the ruins of a whole city! He walked in and around the buildings. They were made of huge stone blocks fitted tightly together without any mortar between them. And, instead of streets, steps linked one building to another.

Now Hiram knew that this must be one of the lost Inca cities because it matched the descriptions he had read about them. Nobody knew the name of this Inca cities, so Hiram called it Machu Picchu after a nearby mountain peak. Machu Picchu (you say: MAH choo PEEK choo) is an Indian word that means “old peak”. In 1911, He Finally found Machu Picchu, and in 1912, he excavated them.

A Letter of Self-introduction

             My name is Su-jin Park and my English name is Sue. I  drew my first breath on ay 4, 1991. I am the second-born of two daughters and one son. My blood type is AB. I live in Seoul, Korea. I am 20 years old. I am a freshman of Sungshin Women University. I am majoring in history at Sungshin Women University.

             My hobby is watching movies in movie theater. There are two movie theaters near here my house. The one is CGV and the other one is MEGABOX. I would prefer MEGABOX. The seats in MEGABOX are soft and comfortable. So I often go to MEGABOX to watch movies. I go to the movies five times a month. Also I collect movie tickets that I watched in movie theaters. They are my treasure. Recently, I saw the Korea movie named ‘troubleshooter’. The movie was exciting. So I enjoyed it.

My favorite movie is ‘Sound of Music’. I saw ‘Sound of Music’ when I eight years old. My mother showed me. She said ‘This is my favorite movie. So I show you it. It is very fantastic!” After I saw ‘Sound of Music’, it is became my favorite movie. The movie has tugged at my heartstrings. So the movie ‘Sound of Music’ rings in my heart.

             I hope to be a history teacher. My dreams and hopes were always changing until I was middle school student. Sometimes I want to become a lawyer, sometimes I wanted to become a doctor when I was young. I might even change my future goal. But right now, I love to study history and teach history to my younger brother.
